not sure this is good news for anybody outside tangosol who might now wade in a lot of cash ... and rightfully so.
coherence has quite a good reputation ... question is, is now the right time to start using it? oracle is not know for being open or easy to work with ... outside the main database products.
not sure what oracle is up to. extreme transactions sound a lot like google style huge grids ... and then tangosol/ coherence seems like a good choice.
so, what do we need the database for then? is oracle going into hardware business? the demand for cpu becomes steadily increasing with their current strategy. scaling is fairly easy with huge suns ... so are they now changing directions? rag & big iron for the db server but applications in a google plex oracle linux tangosol grid? could be interesting for the very rich.
