wicket - graduated to apache top level
wicket = apache wicket
graduated to apache top level and v 1.3 is expected to go final soon. manning is preparing a 'wicket in action' book, and the ' pro wicket' book is also recommended read.
expect a lot of wicket trivia on this site, after long evaluation of all sorts of ways to get information onto the interweb, wicket will finally take over from webobjects.
so moccabeans moves to a complete open source stack (wicket, cayenne, spring, etc.) for future projects. we were busy to build a new foundation and lots of new features to existing apps, so expect to see a new blog/ cms soon and new version of photoserver et. al sometimes later this year.

vayama - international travel solved
http://www.vayama.com/
a very nice web 2.0 mashup. feels a lot better than any other of the international travel database interfaces. nice use of google maps, ajax 'did you mean' for airport selection etc.
better stil is destination selection via click on the map!
it's almost as much fun searching for your flight than the flight later on will be.
recommended.
not too surprising backed by one of the biggest dutch travel logistics companies. flying dutchmen ....

open source biology
http://www.nybooks.com/articles/20370
biology is the leading natural science of the 21st century and we will see open source hacking of life pretty soon.
add some nano tech and cyberpunk for good measure.
this is a serious issue, much more so than many current themata in ICT. as with all tech it's thrilling to see the possibilities and benefits as well as the gained knowledge.
but we shall not forget the potential downsides as well, as knowing human nature the downsides will be massive. so responsible humans need to be very aware of things to come and apply 'white hat' hacker ethics before the dark side takes over.
